Mundial de Tango 2012

Hi everyone,
The Mundial de Tango is over and I will be posting some of the performances here for you to watch.

The Mundial de Tango is a competition held annually in Buenos Aires in August with a Salon Category (that's what we do) and a Stage Category (also known as Tango escenario).  The Salon Category has very strict rules about the usage of traditional milonga figures and the Stage Category is choreographic and includes elements from other dance disciplines, such as ballet.  The first Mundial de Tango was in 2003.   Dancers/participants travel from all over the world to compete in Buenos Aires for two weeks of classification rounds culminating in a bonanza of a night with the finals... and this years winners were from Argentina!
The above video is of the Salon Classification rounds.  Remember the Salon Category is totally improvised and consequently the participants have no idea of what the music will be on the day.

Last Absolute Beginners Tango Course for 2012

Just a little reminder that I have the last beginners course for the year starting tomorrow.

Last Absolute Beginners Course for 2012
8 week course, starts 15 August - 3 October
Every Wednesday
YMCA
156 Toi Toi St Victory
6pm - 7.30pm
$100
(followed by the $5 practica so you can practice what you have learnt)

If you know anyone who is interested please send them my way - they can just turn up!

The fee for Absolute Beginners is $100 for the course.

AN INCENTIVE FOR YOU!!!
This is a great opportunity for those of you who could not come to the Monday night continuation classes (Improvers) to recap and revise ....  as after this course I will be continuing the Wednesday night classes at the same time (6 - 7.30pm) at the Improvers level until the end of the year.
If you would like to take a refresher course it will be $70 for the course, then you can join the Improvers on a Wednesday night - how good is that!
I realised that many of you could not come on a Monday night to continue - so this is my attempt to give you a good chance to give the tango a go and all on a Wednesday night ;-)

Call me if any of this is not clear!

Basically the levels are :
Absolute Beginners (8 weeks tuition)
Improvers (up to 2 years tuition depending on ability)
Intermediate (2 years tuition and over)
The levels actually work on concepts and ability to lead/follow them AND the amount of time you spend on the dance floor... rather than months/years. However I find it is a good guide to throw some numbers at you so you can see that the tango is actually attainable!

Hope to see you or some of your friends there!

Big Red

Hi everyone. Winter in Sydney is soooo lovely! Thought you'd all love this very tasteful photo . Been in the "country" for a few days and now heading into the "bright lights" . Time to unpack those sparkly tango shoes I bought at the festival and dance up a storm.... Or go shopping!

In Sydney remembering Wellington

Thank you to Frank who created this wonderful montage of the 11th NZ Tango Festival! Sit back, relax, enjoy! http://vimeo.com/m/46710117
