Sunday Technique Class 1 April & Privates

Sunday technique class this week will be looking at some tasty little cross system morsels - hope you can make it!

We will start at the earlier time of 4pm to accommodate the Verdict Milonga which commences 5.30 - 8ish.

Beginners, this is a free milonga (social dance time) and it would be great for you to come and have a look.  You may even feel brave enough to have a spin around the floor!

Verdict Cafe and Bar
189 Bridge St, Nelson
5.30 - 8 ish

This months DJ will be Graham Galt of Cafe del Tango @ Kush fame.  I look forward to putting my dancing shoes on and not Djing Graham ;-)

Please support the venue by buying dinner/drinks.

I have a couple of spots which have just become available due to students going away for work .... if you want to do a few weeks of intensive privates to kick start your tango or just to improve ... speak to me!

See you on Sunday tangueros.

Wow I feel like I have been to Tango heaven and back!

What an amazing Tango feast.  We had it all..... a weekend of fabulous music from our gorgeous Djs, awesome dancing, meeting new people and dancing with the oldies (as in more experienced!). We had sun, rain, sun and cloud, hot and cold. Sore feet and yummy treats.

A heartfelt thank you to our Djs, Nina (Wellington), Marion (Christchurch) and Maida (Auckland) who kept us moving the whole time.  Did you notice that there was never a tanda when the dance floor wasn't heaving?  This is no small feat from our Djs with their exceptional selection of tunes and for this I thank the three of you again and again!

Thank you to THE DANCERS - yes that is you- who gave so generously of your time and asked people you didn't know to dance, got beginners up on their feet and generally spread the tango love! It is wonderful to put on an event where people mix and mingle so well and want to ensure that everyone gets a dance and goes home exhausted, happy and raring to come again next year!

Of course I cannot do this alone, (although over the years I have been trying to cultivate Superwoman status) - Nicki, Sophie, Gavin, Juliette, Halfdan, Cheryl, Jeanneane, James, Rachel and Clare.... thanks for helping me keep it together and for all those last minute details that needed sorting.  You were fabulous.

Thank you to the Nelsonians who provided nibbles on Sunday and the Nelson bakers - Madeline your apple tart was scrumptious and Yvonne your lemony sweet treats were divine ...  I should know I had a few!

Photos will soon be on the Facebook page and on the Summer Tango in Nelson website - just give me a couple of days to get sorted ;-)

If you have piccs that you would like to submit please email me with them and I will put them up for you. Frank's are being posted to the Facebook page as I write.....

If you have access to Facebook please like our page Summer Tango in Nelson, tell your friends and I will send out info soon on the dates for next year so have plenty of time to add us to your dancing calendar and to book those grabaseats.

Below is a beautiful little clip from the Sunday afternoon Fellworth Milonga from Frank.

See you on the dance floor tangueros.

4 days to go!

The Summer Tango in Nelson Weekend
is just around the corner

in 4 days!

A few last minute details for the out-of-towners....

There is a courtesy bus leaving from 1903 Square, at the top of Trafalgar St opposite Harry's Bar,  to the Playhouse at 6.45 on Friday night.  This bus is for the out of towers who have no transport and is a free service.  Please contact me if you would like to be on this bus - there are limited spaces and I already have a few people lined up.

If you are staying at Fellworth House (Golden Lodge), Rachel will pick you up at 6.45 sharp from Fellworth House in her people mover.  There is space for 6 people max in Rachel's van, if there are more of you staying there you will have to find your way to 1903 Square to catch the Playhouse van.

Just so you know a taxi would cost approx $85 one way.  Call Nelson City Taxis on 5488225.

I have another couple of locals who can pick you up so let me know if you require a lift and we can make sure you get there!
Let me know as soon as you can about your requirements.
You can email me on or text/call me on 027 238 0568

There is a bus ($3 each way) which will take you from town to the Suburban Club in Tahunanui.
Call 548 6815 to secure a seat and ask them to pick you up from 1903 Square at 7pm.   If you are staying at Fellworth you can get them to pick you up from there so you don't have to worry about walking in to town (although the walk is lovely!)
Alternatively you could share a taxi with your new friends (approx cost $20 one way).  Call Nelson City Taxis on 5488225.

If it is raining we will have the milonga at Bar Berlin, 5 Church St.  A cosy venue where you can buy a glass of wine or coffee. It is just around the corner from 1903 Square.  Don't forget to check out the market in Montgomery Square first (9am-1pm) and have one of Doris' German sausages!

Fellworth House is walking distance from anywhere in town and situated on the side of the Centre of NZ hill.  Here is a map so you can get there in time for the last milonga of the weekend.  Take a walk through the Queens Gardens on the way and enjoy the lovely bush walk up to the house on the right or take the driveway!

A few last minute details for the locals....

Thank you to those who are hosting some of our guests - it is much appreciated by me and them.

If you are available to give the out-of-towers a ride to the milongas on either night please let me know and I can put you in contact with them.

Please book into The Playhouse if you haven't already done so ;-)

Please complete registration so I can organise seating for the Saturday night!

Feel free to bring a plate to share on the Sunday milonga, soft drinks and chocolate provided ;-)

It is looking like the sun will be shining and the vibe will be great!  Really looking forward to welcoming all our guests to our fabulous weekend of dancing in Nelson.

Happy travelling to those coming from overseas - Brisbane, Philidelphia, Germany - and to those from other parts of NZ - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, Westport, Blenheim, Picton .....

Hasta las pistas!

For lovers of dance and Piazzolla - here is a little something Piazzolla, a little different and pretty special!

Sunday Technique Class + Monday classes

This weekend technique class will commence at the usual time of 5pm with the doors opening at 4.30 for a warmup before class.

This week we will be revising another one of Quique's moves and looking at adding more musicality to the caminata we did last week.  FUN!

See you on Sunday!

Doors will open at 5.30 pm for a cracker 6pm beginners class.

Class will kick off at 7.15pm - thanks for being so flexible with the start times while the Beginners class is on.

And now check out this video of Gisela and Gustavo at a local milonga in Buenos Aires, extraordinary teachers and performers ... they are going to be teaching at the NZ Tango Festival this year and teaching an Immersion Course after the festival.

Monica has just informed me that the Blenheim Festival and milonga tomorrow have been cancelled - they are rescheduling it for next weekend.  This is due to the bad weather that has been forecast.

There is still a lot of social tango on this weekend:

Fri night (tonight)
Bar Berlin (formally Baby G's) from 7.30

Saturday night
Cafe del Tango @ Kush from 8pm.

Happy dancing!
