Matthew Civil (Wellington) and I are going to be teaching a series of workshops in Golden Bay 1 - 3 May.  We thought it would be really fun to teach together as we both have a special passion for improvising within the structure of good technique.  So please come along and check us out!  Thanks Ute for putting all this together.  Is going to be a great weekend and a really good tune up for Cecilia and NZ Tango Fest in June.  Basically the more we can dance right now the better! Please register with Ute on udmaurer@gmail.com

Summer Tango in Nelson

6 - 8 March 2015

To all the participants of the 5th Summer Tango in Nelson,

What a fabulous weekend of dancing.  Friday and Saturday's weather aside it was the perfect weekend.  Great to see so many familiar happy faces, big smiles and new smiles -  to all the Summer Tango virgins, thanks for choosing to come here to play with us!  I hope you have gone back home with a really warm tango feeling ;-)

Thanks everyone for being here, for laughing, dancing and sharing your tango stories with each other.  Thanks for your kindness to people from other places and for making the effort to make new connections to keep our beloved tango prospering in NZ.

Events like this are why we go to classes and workshops, get sore feet and feel frustrated at times!

Events like this keep us wanting more and fill a very special place in our lives.

So many people are involved in making any weekend like this a true success and I feel it is important to acknowledge the stalwarts .

Behind the scenes are the main people who help set up, pack down and clean: Stevan, Nicki, Ray, Jeanneane, Dave, Bevan, Kay, Mark, Julie, Rosie, Meredith.

Those that bake yumminess: Nicki, Rosie, Marilyn, Kay

Those that generously host out of towners
(too many to mention but you know who you are!)

Up front, those providing the music which takes hours of preparation and dedication: Grigor, Stephan, Iain and Maida

And YOU for experiencing Summer Tango, spreading the word and bringing your positive energy and joy to the event - this is what makes it a success!

I'll be back in touch soon with the dates for next year and I'll let you know when the photos are on the website to look at. In the meantime, I'll post a few to Facebook just so you can relive the memories of another great weekend dancing in Nelson, NZ!

Yours always in Tango

ESSENTIAL INFO AT A GLANCE

Summer Tango essential info

Saturday 7 March Midday - 4.30pm
Queens Gardens
cnr Bridge & Tasman Sts
DJ  Iain (Wellington)
Wet weather option, Trafalgar St Hall, 67 Trafalgar St opposite Trailways
Theme: Spots and Stripes

Come and try out our huge portable dance floor, built by one of our very own tangueros, Bill, which will be set up right in the middle of the Victorian Queen’s Gardens. Grab a delicious takeaway lunch and while away the afternoon tango style with Iain Fyfe at the DJ helm. Rugs will be placed on the grass for you to lounge around on and there are a few picnic tables and chairs scattered around also.  There are plenty of trees to get shade from our hot Nelson sun, but don’t forget to bring a hat and slap on some sun screen.  If its raining head to the Trafalgar St Hall.

Saturday 7 March 7.30pm - midnight
BYO drinks
Masonic Hall
Entry $40 (includes dessert)
DJ Stephan Resch  (Auckland)
Theme: White Night Delight
With a lovely indoor-outdoor flow you will enjoy dancing at the new Masonic Hall.  It has arguably the best dance floor in Nelson and has been host to a few of our regular monthly milongas so far!
Head out to dinner first in Nelson at one of our great cafes or restaurants and then come to the milonga for your dessert!
Dress up and wear those flash shoes.   Nibbles, sweet treats and soft drinks will be available through the evening and you can BYO as well.

Sunday 8 March  1pm-5pm
FELLWORTH HOUSE  MILONGA
193 Milton Road, The Wood, Nelson
Entry $25
DJ Maida  (Auckland)
Theme: Floral
For many tangueros this venue is one of their favourites.  Nestled under the summit of the Centre of New Zealand, on a sun soaked, tree clad hillside overlooking Nelson city and the harbour, Tasman Bay and sun set drenched distant mountains, this elegant Victorian Italianate house hosts our farewell afternoon milonga.  Locals feel free to bring a plate to share!   BYO alcohol, soft drinks provided.

Call Anne-Maree on 027 238 0568 – if you are lost or need some help – hopefully I’ll answer!
