4th Annual Summer Tango in Nelson weekend!
Social dance all weekend dancers from all around NZ
(and a few special guests from overseas)
at various gorgeous locations around Nelson.
The $75 entrance fee for the Summer Tango weekend includes entry to all the milongas, dessert at the Saturday night milonga, and snacks at the Sunday afternoon milonga.
The price is kept low so you can come on down, up or over and join us each year for a fun and happy weekend in the lush environs of Nelson.
In a nut shell…..
THE PLAYHOUSE 7 March, 6pm - midnight
The welcome milonga on the Friday night will be at the very special Playhouse in Mapua. Make sure you book a table soon (so you get the best choice of tables around the dance floor) and eat with us before the milonga. Doors will open at 6pm for dining and relaxing tango tunes then DJ Peter from Wellington will kick off the dancing at around 7.45pm - till midnight.
To reserve a good table please call Nic asap on 03 540 2985 and tell him you are with Summer Tango.
If you are from out of town and need transport to The Playhouse there will be a mini van doing a pick up at 7pm from Fellworth House. (Please advise numbers.) Please let me know asap if you are carless and staying elsewhere. We'll organise a car ride for you with one of our local tangueros.
QUEENS GARDENS 8 March, 1pm - 4.30pm
Our outdoor milonga this year will be held at the beautiful Queens Gardens in Bridge St, next to the Suter Art Gallery and Cafe. Grab something to eat and then come and sit under the lush foliage of the giant trees then dance the afternoon away on our specially built outdoor floor. Matthew Civil and I will be teaching a free beginners class before the milonga from midday till 1pm to help promote tango in Nelson. You are all very welcome to come along and help out. I think it would be VERY appropriate to wear floral dresses and shirts to this milonga in keeping with the gorgeous gardens!
MASONIC HALL 8 March 7.30pm - middnight
Put your glad rags on for this milonga held at our favourite Masonic Hall with the best dancing floor in Nelson. Desserts will be served later in the evening - so venture out to one of Nelson's great restaurants first and save yourselves for dessert at the milonga! DJ Gregor from Auckland will have us dancing all night with his great mix of music.
No need to book a table here - we sit wherever and meet people from other centres - that's what Summer Tango is all about! This is truly a mix and mingle night. So come on time and grab a seat venturing to sit next to someone new!
FELLWORTH HOUSE 9 March 1pm - 5pm
We love our Sunday afternoon milongas at Fellworth House! Too tired to dance? Just hang out on the deck and take in the spectacular views of the Tasman Bay, the mountains and the city of Nelson. Raring to dance? DJ Maida has an excellent and fun collection of music which will keep you snuggled up and happy all afternoon :-)
